When thinking about dating and relationships, what characteristics or actions make a guy a jerk? What percentage of guys do you think qualify as jerks?
Note: It is interesting to see what guys say makes a guy a jerk, and how that might different from girls' opinions, so this can be a relevant question even in a mixed classroom. However, it has been pointed out to me that girls can be jerks, too, in a relationship, so you can ask that question as well.

Post-Read Questions:
Do you think the author is exaggerating or accurate in his description of guys? Why?
Can you think of any recent experiences or news stories that back up these claims?
(You can refer to this entry or this entry from my other blog for some related reading material)
Does the statistic that 98.7% of men are jerks sound high or low?

Math Connection: If 98.7% of guys are jerks, how many nice guys are in your school?
Note: Readers are often curious how the statistic of 98.7% was reached. It is not very scientific, but it is not an arbitrary number, either. I went to a school with roughly 2,000 people, which meant there were around 1,000 other guys. Out of my class, I knew of 2 other nice guys, for a total of three nice guys. I multiplied that times four (9-12 grade), and then through in an extra nice guy for the sake of optimism, which made 13 out of a thousand, or 98.7%
